First off, we need to answer a question before moving on: "Who are the New York Jets?" Well they talk a lot of trash to their opponents. Some might even consider changing their name to the Staten Island Jets. They make ridiculous predictions that even Joe Namath wouldn't say after a long night of Broadway temptations. Heck, Rex Ryan believes that he is so "Great" that rather then someone leaking out an embarrassing foot fetish video of him and his wife, the guy posts it himself. If the Federal Communications Commission would allow it, he would personally soil all of their opponent's fields during half time. This kind of personality is what the Jets are and what allowed them to go to the AFC Title game two years in a row.
Now, knowing what they are, the real question is why did they lose? Well, the answer is simple the Jets decided to be Big Ben's next play thing. The whole season and especially the playoffs, the Jets motivated themselves through basically abusing the first amendment by treating every team they faced like a toilet bowl in White Castle. They acted as if the Colts and the Patriots were the Lions and the Panthers.
Well, then came the Steelers with their gold and black uniforms and their 6 super bowl rings. The Jets then went from a biker gang that used the mayor's lawn as a urinal, to kids about to get their first autograph from a famous NFL Quaterback.
Trevor Pryce, Defensive End for the Jets, commented, "How do you prepare to tackle a guy as big as a polar bear? How do you prepare for a guy who can flick a ball 50 yards at the drop of a dime? How do you prepare for a guy who can run like he does? How do you prepare for someone who wants to win like he wants to win? … There have been many times I've had two hands wrapped around him, and he just doesn't go down. … He's a genetic freak."
Well that's one guys opinion right? What about Rex Ryan? Lets see what the guy who wanted to fight Channing Crowder thinks, "Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are huge men, you know,” Ryan started, “but they approach things a little different. Brady will sit in there and throw the ball at the last second. Then you hit him. Peyton, if you’ve got a free run and he doesn’t like what he sees, even though he’s the hardest guy in the league to sack, eventually he’ll get down with the ball. He won’t take the hit.
“Whereas Roethlisberger will beat you up. He’ll hold the ball, and then when you come in there, he’ll go, ‘Ah, now we’ve got a free runner, one or two guys? Ahhh, I’ll just knock this guy down. Stand there. And then make plays down the field.’ I mean, I’ve never seen a guy take the hits he can take, and also make people miss the way he does, and be as accurate on the run. And he’s a lot faster athlete than you think.”
That's right Rex Ryan also decided to bow down and worship Roethlisberger.
The "We don't care who we face, because we're winning the Super Bowl" team became the "Well we have a chance to make it to the Super Bowl, but don't bet on us because were playing the Steelers" team. The Jets lost to the Steelers way before the game began. Some might believe it was a strategy to praise the hard hitting and ruthless Steelers, but as the famous saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
This lack of fire showed during the first half. Rex Ryan basically stated that they didn't change strategies, the Jets players just decided to execute plays and actually tackle.
In summary, the Jets lost because they went from a team that motivates themselves through placing high standards and trash talking to a team that basically was another victim of Big Ben. Luckily for the NFL they don't have to do an investigation or a suspension this time, because it seems like the Jets gave their consent.
